Digital Painting

been working on a new style/approach to digital painting that i've always wanted to try -- watching some video tutorials by my all-time favourite artist Loish. this is what i've come up with so far, but i hope to take it to a finished and more polished level. eventually.

Treasure

soooo....
here' a painting i've been working on for the last little while that i just finished the other night. it's my first mixed media painting and includes acrylic paint, fabric, and metalic sharpie (sharpie paint marker). This was a lot of fun to make! and it was also my first attempt at epoxy resin (that thick clear glossy finish over everything), which was quite messy and nerve-racking, but really worth the end result. I think i'll try it again on my next piece :) anyway, hope you enjoy! (sorry for the crappy lighting/photo quality).

Here We Go...

Aaaaalllright. so here's the lineart for a painting i'm going to do (added a quick gradient), and it is going to take me a LOOOONNG time! so i thought i'd post the lineart to have something up while i paint it. also, this is my first time doing digital linart, and i must say, i really like it. it's so much easier! i'm still slow though, this clean-up probably took me around 15 hours :S ...but i've only just begun!.....

Howl's Moving Castle

Here's a quick sketch i did tonight of my interpretation of a character named Sophie from one of my favourite movies, Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle. This is when her long hair is burned off by Calcifer, the fire demon, and i love how it stays grey in the end. (if you have no idea what i'm talking about, then shame on you! you need to see this movie!! ;P right now)
i hope to colour this one soon to show off her pretty grey hair....

Rotten Apples

So, i'm off for christmas holidays and i've FINALLY had a chance to do some artwork of my own. Thought i'd kill two birds with one stone and give some art as an xmas gift to my sister. This painting is actually of her, which i painted from a photo, in acrylic paint on canvas (sorry for the blurry photo). I also included some lyrics on the painting from a song by [non other than] the Smashing Pumpkins called Rotten Apples: "Dirty your face/ With longing, and grace"
I used a modeling paste and piped the words onto the canvas and then painted over them to create a sort of embossed look. It's been ages since i've painted so it was really nice to get back to basics.....

Here's the painted version of the previous sketch. i'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but, still need ALOT more practice with photshop!! and my clean-up! :S winter is on it's way.......

Candy Quackenbush

did some artwork tonight :D. one of my favourite books is called 'the abarat' by clive barker, and the main character is a teenage girl named candy quackenbush, so this is what i imagine her to look like. i started off with a sketch, and then decided to do an ink wash. i used a black sharpie and good old fashion india ink (i'm too cheap for fancy marker pens, although i would love to get my hands on some one of these days) then i altered the hue in photoshop. she's supposed to have one blue eye and one brown eye. quite an interesting character :)

Self Portrait

Something i haven't done in YEARS is draw a self portrait. tonight i was feeling a little traditional, and a little bored, so voila! it was good practice :)

Photography

here are a few photos i've taken, a number of years ago, most of them when i was in high school. i was lucky enough to attend a special art high school where we got to learn (among other mediums) how to develop our own film and prints. a really neat experience! the first three were taken on an old, old, manual pentax and developed myself. the rest were taken on a disposable camera, back when digital cameras weren't as popular as they are today. thank god for digital! hope you enjoy them :) i hope to post some newer sketches soon!
